Family & Group Volunteer Opportunity

Here's a great opportunity for a short term service project.

A new thrift store has opened up near the corner of White Bear Avenue and Larpenteur and they need help with unpacking and restocking their shelves.  This store serves the community and provides funding for Arc Greater Twin Cities, which is a nonprofit organization that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Here is a copy of an e-mail describing this opportunity:

Hi,

My name is Tricia Lee and I am from Arc Greater Twin Cities.  In case you are not familiar, Arc Greater Twin Cities is a nonprofit organization that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. To help fund our programs, we have several thrift stores, called Arc’s Value Village, throughout the metro area.

We have just opened a new thrift store in Saint Paul near the intersection of White Bear Avenue and Larpenteur.  Our grand opening was on November 21st, and many people joined in the festivities, including Councilmember Dan Bostrom.  The good news is that this store has been a bigger hit than we ever expected.  Inventory is flying off the shelves faster than we can provide.  This means that we need volunteers more than ever to help unpack and restock donations.

I know that Gethsemane Lutheran Church reaches out to benefit the community.  This would be a good opportunity for the church to continue to help out.  I am looking for a group of volunteers to help out for two to four hours and am hoping you can put me in touch with someone who might coordinate a volunteer event at Arc.

I can be reached via this email or by calling 952-915-3623.

Thank you for considering Arc!

Happy Thanksgiving,

Tricia Lee

Groups can be most any size... 2 to 50!  Help is needed any time but especially in December.  Volunteers need to be age 8 and above.  Also, kids who are 8 to 15 need a parent or adult with them.

The hours are very flexible..Volunteers are asked to serve in 2 to 4 hour blocks and set it up ahead of time.  The store is open Monday – Friday from 9am to 9pm and Saturday – Sunday from 9am to 7pm.

It works best if the team(s) propose a date and approximate number of volunteers.  Then they can look at the schedule and make sure there is no one else booked.  Also they need to make sure they can staff enough people at the store to accommodate the number of volunteers.  For additional information visit the Arc website.

Have a blessed holiday by being a blessing to others!

Pastor Tim
