Grief Healing Series

As the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are quickly approaching, I’m mindful that for many people this can be a difficult time, especially if they have lost a loved one in recent years.  So I am very pleased that Gethsemane is able to provide a special opportunity this year to support those who grieve.

Beginning November 23rd we will be hosting a set of six sessions relating to grief and loss entitled Grief Healing through Group Support.  Our presenter will be Rita Goldhammer who is a local author and Certified Bereavement Facilitator.  The sessions will be on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and cover the following topics:

November 23        Recognizing Your Loss – Styles of Grieving

November 30        Reacting to Your Loss – Emotions and Self-care

December 7          Readjusting to a New World – Family Dynamics

December 14        Recollecting and Re-experiencing – Getting through the Holidays

(Note the two week break in the series over Christmas)

January 4              Relinquishing the Old Attachments – Loss Dreams

January 11            Reaching Out to a New Future

Through the generosity of gifts to our Memorial Fund, we are delighted to provide these sessions free of charge and open to the general public.  If you know of others who might benefit from this opportunity, please extend our invitation to them as well.  (A full-color flier is attached below that you can download if you wish.)

The Scriptures remind us that “Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”  That beautiful verse from Psalm 30 acknowledges both the reality of sorrow, as well as the firm promise of God that joy will return in due time.  Wherever you are in that journey, all of us at Gethsemane pray that the Lord’s presence will clear to you throughout this holiday season, and all the days to come.

Your Servant in Christ,

Pastor Tim
