Which do you pay more attention
to, your strengths or your weaknesses?
Many of us tend to focus on
our weaknesses. Maybe that’s because we were raised with a kind
of disapproval for “egotism.” Or it could be a defense mechanism
– no one can catch me off guard with a criticism that I haven’t
already made of myself! Sometimes we just grow up hearing more
disapproval than praise, and end up internalizing that conversation
into our own hearts. Whatever the reason, it’s not a very joyful
way to live, which is one reason why StrengthsFinders is such a breath
of fresh air!
StrengthsFinders is an online
inventory you can take that helps you to see what kind of things you
are naturally inclined to be good at. The supporting material
that goes along with it encourages you to develop those strengths, rather
than focusing on your weaknesses. As I’ve worked to approach
my life that way, I’ve found that it’s made me both more productive
and more joyful.
I would love to help others
discover their strengths, and explore how focusing on them can bring
blessings both to you and to those around you. I’m looking for
six to eight people to join me in a short-term pilot project in November.
We’ll gather Sunday morning the 8th between services to
take the inventory in Gethsemane’s computer lab, and then meet for
two Wednesday evenings for conversation. Our Wednesdays will be
the 11th and 18th of November from 6:30 to 8:00PM.
There will be a $15 fee for materials.
If this is something you’d
like to explore, please fill out the registration form below. I’m eager to join you on
